KATHMANDU: Buddha Air has strongly objected to reports published by some online media outlets claiming that a flight attendant refused to open the aircraft door during a recent runway incident, stating that such claims are misleading and factually incorrect.
In an official clarification, the airline said the situation unfolded strictly in line with aviation safety protocols and that passenger safety remained the top priority throughout the incident.
According to Buddha Air:
-
Technical and Safety Conditions: After the aircraft veered off the runway, a ditch and accumulated water were observed on the left side of the aircraft. Opening the left-side door under such conditions posed a serious safety risk and was therefore avoided.
-
Cabin Crew Response: The cabin crew attempted to unlock the front right door in accordance with standard safety procedures. However, due to a mechanical jam, the door could not be opened. The crew then immediately initiated evacuation through the rear service door to ensure passengers could exit the aircraft safely without delay.
-
Passenger Assistance: During the evacuation, passenger Umesh Moktan played a crucial role by helping open the front right door and assisting fellow passengers in exiting the aircraft swiftly and safely.
Buddha Air has expressed sincere gratitude to Umesh Moktan for his courage, presence of mind, and cooperation during the emergency.
The airline also announced that he will be formally recognized and rewarded for his commendable actions.
The airline reiterated its commitment to passenger safety and urged media outlets to verify facts responsibly before publishing reports that may misrepresent critical safety operations.
