KATHMANDU: The National Vigilance Center under the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers has taken action against 11,000 government employees in the last four months.
Since the formation of the government led by Prime Minister Balendra Shah, the process of maintaining discipline in government offices and hearing public complaints has been taken forward at a rapid pace, informed Narayan Prasad Bhatta, Joint Secretary and Spokesperson of the Center. According to him, from last Chaitra to Shrawan, the process of registering complaints related to government offices or employees has increased significantly.
According to Spokesperson Bhatta, 1,298 complaints were registered at the Center from mid-March to July. Out of which, 1,114 or 85.82 percent of the complaints have been resolved. Which is 11.72 percentage points more than the same period of the previous year.
The 100 list of governance reforms issued after the formation of the current government mentioned that the code of conduct of employees should be implemented literally. Accordingly, the center has stated that the office monitoring and action process has been made strict and comprehensive.
According to the center, 924 offices have been monitored during the period. During the monitoring, 11,040 employees, including 10,268 who did not follow the code of conduct and time, 645 who were not present in the prescribed uniform, and 91 who were not found in their offices, have been subject to action. The center has strictly instructed the concerned bodies to take action against all these employees who violated discipline in accordance with the prevailing law.
Similarly, the center has stated that out of a total of 318 offices monitored, a total of 2,775 employees, including 2,213 who did not follow the code of conduct and did not follow the time, and 562 who did not wear the prescribed uniform, were found not to have violated discipline.
The center has increased its activity to make government services citizen-friendly, disciplined, and dignified. The center has also set a course of action to expand the use of digital technology, artificial intelligence (AI) and data analysis in investigation, surveillance, monitoring, spot checks and investigations in the coming days.
It has also been stated that coordination with Hello Government, the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers and other stakeholders will be further strengthened and the regulations, guidelines, procedures and operational procedures related to the center will be updated to be in line with the amended Prevention of Corruption Act.
Complaints can be filed
The center has stated that information can also be given over the phone regarding irregularities and corruption in government offices. According to Bhatta, spokesperson of the center, if there are any complaints about government employees not following the code of conduct or not working, they can be called on the center’s hotline number 014200345. The center also says that information can be given if the employee has suspicious assets.
