KATHMANDU: The government has recognized 2,674 martyrs by publishing their names in the Nepal Gazette.

These individuals laid down their lives in the pursuit of national interest, democracy, and progressive changes in Nepal.

The Ministry of Home Affairs compiled and released the list in the Gazette, marking the culmination of a process initiated two months ago during a cabinet meeting of the preceding year.

The published list provides a regional breakdown, revealing that Kalikot mourns 271 martyrs, while Rolpa grieves for 369.

Conversely, Sankhuwasabha, Lamjung, Udayapur, and Rasuwa report fewer martyrs.

Notably, the list includes three individuals from the Nepali Army and one from the Armed Police Force of Nepal, all recognized for their extraordinary sacrifices.

This initiative follows a previous effort led by Maoist Center Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal Prachanda, where the government published the names of 8,467 individuals who lost their lives in various agitations, declaring them martyrs on different dates.

Prime Minister Dahal-led government, for the second time, has now published the names of 11,141 martyrs in total.
