KATHMANDU: The Election Commission (EC) has extended an invitation to individuals to register their names in the voter list for the upcoming by-elections.
In a press release issued today, the Commission urged citizens to register their names if they have become eligible or missed the opportunity in previous registrations, as there are 23 vacant positions in local bodies, representative assemblies, and provincial assemblies where by-elections are scheduled to take place.
Following the completion of the elections for local bodies on April 23, 2022, and for representative and provincial assemblies on November 20, 2022, the Commission has declared that 23 positions remain vacant.
The Commission has stated that it will engage in consultations with the government to fill these vacant positions through by-elections.
They are internally preparing according to legal provisions and will announce the date for by-elections at the appropriate time.
Considering that voter registration activities are suspended from the date of the declaration of the election, as per Section 4 (2) of the Voter List Act, 2073, the Commission has urged individuals to promptly register their names.
The EC has facilitated voters by allowing them to register their names from convenient locations outside their own districts.
