KATHMANDU: Ten student organizations have jointly condemned Prime Minister Balen Shah for his remarks on Nepal’s border issues made in the Federal Parliament on Sunday, demanding that he immediately withdraw the statement and issue a public apology.

In a joint press statement, leaders of various student groups, including All Nepal National Free Students Union, Akhil (Socialist), Akhil (Sixth), ANNFSU (Revolutionary), Scientific Socialist Students Organization Nepal and Janapakshiya Students Union Nepal, described the Prime Minister’s comments as “anti-national, surrenderist and against national interests.”

The student organizations said it was deeply concerning that such remarks came at a time when Nepal continues to claim that territories including Lipulekh, Kalapani and Limpiyadhura remain under Indian encroachment.

According to the statement, comments that could weaken Nepal’s sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity are unacceptable and deserve strong condemnation.

The student leaders further argued that the Prime Minister’s statement should not be viewed as a simple mistake but as an expression of a political mindset contrary to national interests.

They demanded that Shah retract the controversial remarks, publicly apologize to the Nepali people and clarify his position.

The organizations also warned that if their demands are ignored, students, youth and patriotic citizens across the country would launch stronger protests against what they described as actions detrimental to national sovereignty and interests.

The statement comes amid growing criticism from political parties, constitutional experts and civil society members over the Prime Minister’s parliamentary remarks regarding Nepal–India border issues.
