KATHMANDU: The government has formed a high-level committee to investigate the visit visa scandal that has rocked national politics in recent weeks.

A meeting of the Council of Ministers held today decided to form the committee under the leadership of former Chief Secretary Shanker Das Bairagi.

The committee has been mandated to submit a report within 30 days, focusing on irregularities, procedural violations, and possible abuse of authority in the distribution of visit visas.

The decision comes amid continuous obstruction of parliamentary proceedings by the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) and Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP), both of which have been demanding a high-level investigation into the scandal and the resignation of Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak.

The opposition has accused the government of mishandling the visa process and allowing systemic exploitation under ministerial watch.

With the formation of the high-level committee, there are growing expectations of a credible and impartial probe into the allegations.
