KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress President and former Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba has stated that a democratic republic has truly transferred power to the citizens.

Speaking at a programme organized to mark the 30th anniversary of the Association of District Coordination Committees on Friday, Deuba pledged to initiate a dialogue for an objective review and revision of the Constitution to ensure its effective implementation.

The leader of the major coalition party promised to consider constructive suggestions from the public in this regard. “We are focused on making public services at all three levels prompt and effective, while advancing towards prosperity through rapid economic and social development,” he said.

He stressed that the local level is the ideal place for practicing federalism, as it is directly connected to the citizens. According to Deuba, the Constitution has recognized the local level as a lifeline for democracy.

He stated that the role of District Coordination Committees is crucial for coordinating with these essential bodies and monitoring their work. Deuba further stressed that ensuring inclusion, good governance, transparency, and ecological balance in development efforts should be the Coordination Committee’s priority.

He added that his party would play a supportive role in the formulation of the budget, infrastructure development, and the enactment of laws.
