NIROJ TOLANGE, KATHMANDU-LB Chaudhary has been unanimously elected as the president of the Nepal Christian Society, an organization of Nepali Christians that has been continuously advocating for the rights of Nepali Christians and the rights of minority religious communities.
The 28th national convention of the society held in Lalitpur from 20th to 22nd of this Kartik unanimously elected Chaudhary as the president.
Hundreds of pastors and Christian leaders from various churches and organizations across the country participated in the convention and unanimously elected 53 central committees and 181 extended committees. In which co-chairmen Varnawas Shrestha, Chandra Shrestha, and Dilliram Padel have been unanimously elected, while the vice chairmen of all seven provinces and Rajendra Malla as the general secretary have been unanimously elected. Similarly, Mukund Kumar Sharma, Vijay Thapa, Kiran Das, and Surendra Shrestha were unanimously elected as Deputy General Secretary.
The newly elected General Secretary, Rajendra Malla, said that during his tenure, he will continue to advocate for Christian rights and maintain mutual harmony between inter-religious communities by strengthening the relationship with the government. He said that keeping in mind the empowerment of Nepali churches and overall development, the role of Nepali churches in the transformation of society will be broadened and various departments of NCS will be prepared and activated.
Former Secretary General and newly elected Co-Chairman Dilliram Poudel, who has played a major role in bringing NCS to its current state, said that since NCS is a common place where all sects, organizations, and individuals feel a sense of belonging, my role and responsibilities have increased from today.
NCS said that the new working committee will be more active and move forward together with determination to make a transformative impact and contribute to the development of the country as a whole by developing cooperation and strengthening the relationship between Nepali congregations, organizations, and interdenominational by covering various contemporary issues that are directly or indirectly related to Nepali Christians.
Various organizations, including National Churches Fellowship of Nepal, the oldest leading organization of Nepali Christians, have congratulated and wished the newly elected working committee from the convention held on Thursday.
