KATHMANDU: Due to the monsoon, transportation services on 132 road sections across the country have been affected.

According to the Department of Roads, today 13 road sections are fully closed, and 119 road sections are partially operational.

Department spokesperson Sunil Pokharel stated that unilateral traffic operations are underway on 119 road sections including BP Highway, Prithvi Highway, Pushpalal (Mid-Hill) Highway, and others.

Road sections such as Dumre-Besisahar-Chame, Biratnagar-Itahari-Dharan, and Tanahun-Ridi-Korala are completely obstructed.

The Department of Hydrology and Meteorology has indicated a likelihood of widespread rainfall until Saturday, heightening the risk of floods and landslides.

The Department also noted that the western low-pressure system has developed around the western foothills and is expected to move further north from the southern border of Nepal.

This system is likely to activate the monsoon over Nepal in the coming days.

The Department has informed that there is a moderate to heavy possibility of rainfall in most places of Koshi State, Madhesh State, Bagmati State, Gandaki State, and Lumbini State, with some places in Karnali State and Sudurpaschim State also likely to experience heavy rainfall.

Considering the risks of landslides, floods, and water level rise in rivers, streams, and rivulets in urban and Terai regions, the Department has urged people to remain vigilant and make necessary preparations.

This situation could also impact daily life, agriculture, health, tourism, road, and air transportation.
