19 April, 2024/Kathmandu- The Ministry of Home Affairs of the Government of Nepal has issued a circular on the dated (7th April, 2024 Nepali date 25th of Chaitra, 2080, instruction to all the 77 district administration offices of the country Nepal to take necessary action, with the main objective of stopping the preaching of religion.
The Home Ministry spokesperson Narayan Prasad Bhattarai Acknowledging that the circular was issued, he said, ‘Yes, the letter from home has been circular. this letter was issued with the aim of maintaining peace and security on the basis of someone’s complaint and not to stop religious propaganda’.
Nepal’s constitution and laws are discriminatory, targeting minority religious communities and Christians, the state’s power is being misused to prove the normal religious activities of Christians as “crimes”! The leaders of the minority Christian religious community said that the government of Nepal is guilty of causing this situation.
The former general secretary of the National Churches Fellowship of Nepal and also a Chairman of Nepal Persecution Relief, religious freedom activist Rev. Pastor Harka Bahadur Khadka expressed grief As the circular issued by the Ministry of Home Affairs shows this sign of a conspiracy to forcibly curb the freedom of religion and belief by abusing the power of the state.
He said, “Actually, this attempt to stop the movement of the followers of any religious faith to their own religious places is a serious violation of human rights. We, the Nepali churches, have continuously prayed on this matter and demanded the government to withdraw its decision.
After the letter circular from home ministry of Nepal Secretary of Christian Journalist Fellowship Nepal, Niroj Tolange, said that the circular of the house was intended to ban religious beliefs and practices that prohibit religious preaching.
Secretary Niroj Tolange demanded from the government that this letter issued against religious freedom should be canceled as this circular is against Nepal’s constitution and universal human rights.
