KATHMANDU: The Supreme Court has denied businessman Arun Chaudhary’s plea for a temporary injunction against the government’s actions to repossess the land owned by the Bansbari-based Leather and Shoes Factory.
Chaudhary sought an interim injunction to challenge the Land Revenue Office’s move to confiscate 10 ropanis of land formerly belonging to the shoe manufacturing company.
A division bench, comprising Justices Anand Mohan Bhattarai and Tek Prasad Dhungana, dismissed Chaudhary’s application for for the interim order.
In response to Land Revenue Office’s action, CG Chandbag Residency Pvt Ltd filed an application challenging the process, urging for its annulment, according to sources within the Apex Court.
Earlier, on Feb 1, Arun Chaudhary, the brother of billionaire Binod Chaudhary, and the former executive chief of Bansbari Leather and Shoes Factory, Ajit Narayan Singh Thapa, along with Sanjay Thakur, the operator of CG Chandbag Residency Pvt Ltd, were detained by the Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) on accusations of misappropriating government-owned lands.
However, they were eventually released after a court ruling. However, the government implemented efforts to recover possession of the land.
