Kathmandu. Samajwadi Press Organization Nepal has said that attention has been drawn to the media council bill.
The Samajwadi Press Organization has drawn attention to the fact that the Media Council Bill drafted by the Ministry of Communication and Information Technology to replace the current Press Council Act, 2048 does not provide for public welfare advertisements for newspapers and media across the country.
Public welfare advertisements and the amount received by the media should not be canceled. The organization has a clear belief that not only newspapers, radio, television, but also online media should get such facilities.”The statement issued by the organization said, ‘When the advertising market is thin and the media is in crisis, the state should take responsibility and increase subsidies to the media by introducing a law to try to take away the existing facilities. It will be a wrong and stupid decision.’
The organization demands that the newspaper distribution review committee in the Press Council should be amended to include all media.
In a statement issued by the president of the organization, Bishwamani Subedi, asking the Nepali media and parliamentarians not to ignore the suggestions, the government has been requested not to proceed with the bill.
