KATHMANDU: A team from the Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) of the Nepal Police reached the All Nepal Football Association (ANFA) office in Satdobato as part of an investigation into the football governing body.

The CIB team arrived at the office on Friday to take control of certain documents and question ANFA officials. The team was still at the ANFA office on Friday evening.

ANFA Treasurer Rabindra Joshi is with the CIB team and is being questioned. A CIB source said Joshi could be taken into custody if necessary.

“He is with our team now. He has not been taken into custody yet. But if necessary, he will be taken into custody and investigated. The team is currently examining the documents,” a high-ranking CIB official said.

It has been nearly four months since FIFA imposed a ban on ANFA. The National Sports Council had initially suspended ANFA, but later lifted the suspension with conditions. FIFA subsequently imposed the ban, calling for the suspension to be lifted unconditionally.

On Thursday, ANFA General Secretary Kiran Rai said at a press conference that football activities would resume and that the Association’s office would become operational from Monday. However, the CIB reached the office and took control of documents before the planned reopening.

CIB spokesperson SSP Anupam Shumsher Rana confirmed that the bureau is investigating the matter.
