Niroj Toalnge/KATHMANDU: The International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) has announced immediate assistance of Rs 189.622 million (US$1.2 million) for search, rescue and rehabilitation efforts for people affected by floods in the Trishuli and Bhotekoshi rivers following flooding from Tibet.

The IFRC said Red Cross volunteers have been actively involved in search, rescue and relief distribution in the affected areas through emergency response teams and urged them to continue their disaster response efforts.

IFRC Secretary General Jagan Chapagain said the financial assistance has been provided to strengthen the disaster response to the Bhotekoshi floods and provide immediate humanitarian assistance.

In a post on social media, Chapagain said, “IFRC Nepal is ready to mobilize additional assistance to the community if necessary in coordination with the Red Cross and national agencies, and humanitarian assistance will continue.”

He said Red Cross volunteers are active in affected communities and are providing initial relief and assistance.

Chapagain expressed sorrow over the deaths, disappearances and property damage caused by the floods and extended condolences to the families of the victims.
