KATHMANDU: The top leadership of Tribhuvan University has stepped down collectively, with Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. Deepak Aryal, Rector Prof. Dr. Khadga KC, and Registrar Prof. Dr. Kedar Prasad Rijal tendering their resignations on Thursday.
Rector KC confirmed that the decision was made in response to a government call, stating the trio resigned together to facilitate a smoother working environment for the new administration.
“We have submitted our resignations collectively, including the Vice-Chancellor,” KC said, emphasizing that the move was aimed at easing the transition for the incoming government.
The resignations come amid the government’s broader plan to review politically appointed positions. Analysts see the move as part of an ongoing effort to restructure key public institutions.
Prof. Aryal had been appointed Vice-Chancellor on July 9, 2025 (Asar 25, 2082 BS) by then Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli, following the resignation of his predecessor, Prof. Dr. Keshar Jung Baral.
Similarly, Rector KC and Registrar Rijal were appointed on April 12, 2024 (Chaitra 30, 2080 BS), based on the recommendation of Baral, by then Prime Minister and Chancellor of the university Pushpa Kamal Dahal.
Although the statutory tenure for these positions is four years, all three officials have stepped down before completing their terms.
