Kathmandu: Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) Acting Mayor Sunita Dangol has directed Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) Saroj Guragain to work on preserving the public lands, from which the squatters were removed recently.

Inspecting the vacated settlement in Thapathali on Saturday, Acting Mayor Dangol directed CAO Guragain to coordinate with the High Powered Committee for Integrated Development of the Bagmati Civilization and other relevant offices to install fencing for the protection of the areas that have been vacated and are in the process of vacating.

Acting Mayor Dangol inspected the physical infrastructure condition of a colony in Ichangu of Nagarjuna on Sunday. There is a plan to keep the real landless people of the informal settlements in the colony.

In the process of vacating the settlements that were constructed illegally on public and government land along the riverbanks, the settlements in the Thapathali were vacated on April 25.

Before mobilising the bulldozers, KMC notified the people living in the squatter settlements, through public announcement (miking), from Thursday to vacate the settlements themselves.
