KATHMANDU: A senior official of the United Nations has said the world is currently going through its most violent phase since World War II, with escalating conflicts severely affecting civilian lives.

According to Jorge Moreira da Silva, Executive Director of the UN Office for Project Services, intensifying violence and instability, particularly in West Asia, have forced large numbers of people to flee their homes, with the figure increasing every hour.

He noted that the conflict in the Middle East has extended beyond regional boundaries, impacting the global economy. Prices of oil, fuel, and gas have surged sharply, with consequences being felt worldwide.

Developing countries, especially in Asia and Africa, are expected to be the hardest hit by the crisis. There are also warnings that global hunger could worsen significantly this year, with the number of affected people potentially rising by millions.

The United Nations has urged all parties to implement decisions of the Security Council and work towards ending conflicts through diplomatic and peaceful means.

The UN Office for Project Services has been providing project management, procurement, and infrastructure development services in more than 100 countries worldwide.
