SURKHET: Israeli Ambassador Shmulik Arie Bass on Sunday laid the foundation stone for a memorial park at the Faculty of Agriculture, Far-Western University, in memory of 11 Nepali students who were killed in the October 7, 2023 Hamas terrorist attack in Israel.

The memorial park aims to honour the students’ dedication, hard work, and aspirations while also symbolising the strong people-to-people connection between Nepal and Israel.

During his visit to the Far-Western region, Ambassador Bass traveled to Punarbas Municipality in Kanchanpur, where he met Mayor Toya Prasad Sharma, former MP Tara Lama Tamang, and other local officials to discuss community development and opportunities for cooperation.

The visit highlights Israel’s commitment to strengthening bilateral relations and fostering collaboration in education and community initiatives in Nepal.

The ranking involved 136 indicators across 25 criteria that primarily focused on the operational capabilities of emerging universities of South Asia, South America and East Europe. The HE Higher Education Ranking, a global higher education institution ranking organization based in the USA, provides an evidence-based overview of institutional performance, evaluating how universities actually operate rather than just how they are perceived. The report of the HE Higher Education Ranking-2026 stated that the KU has demonstrated a strong potential in areas such as resource and infrastructure management, academic transparency and future-oriented planning. The key feature of this ranking is its emphasis on measuring policies, process, service, outputs and outcomes that define the operations of a university. Some of the indicators used for assessment include inclusiveness, sustainable development, transparency, accountability, research ecosystems, campus safety, internationalization, academic integrity and digital access, according to the HE Higher Education Ranking. The organization said that the rankings are designed to guide meaningful improvement across teaching, research, governance, equity and societal impact. In an email sent to the KU, Noura Abduljalil, Secretary of HE Higher Education Rankings, noted that the recognition is the result of the collective efforts and passion for education among the University’s leadership, faculty, staff, students and alumni. The email also highlighted that the recognition reflected the university’s unwavering commitment to academic excellence and innovation. Likewise, Prof. Dr. Hem Raj Kafle, Director of Academic Excellence Directorate at the Kathmandu University, mentioned that the report provides some insights into the institution’s operational practices. Stating that the report offered valuable information about the University’s operational systems, he expressed his confidence that it will help them to consolidate data for participating in other global rankings.
