KATHMANDU: Newly elected members of Nepal’s upper house, the National Assembly of Nepal, took the oath of office on Monday.
The oath was administered by Narayan Prasad Dahal, Chairperson of the National Assembly, during a ceremony held in Kathmandu.
A total of 17 out of the 18 members elected in the National Assembly election held on Jan 25 took the oath.
Those sworn in include Khamm Bahadur Khati, Geeta Devkota, Chandra Bahadur KC, Jagat Timilsina, Dharmendra Paswan, Prem Prasad Dangal, Mahantha Thakur, Ranjit Karn, Ram Kumari Jhakri, Rekha Kumari Jha, Roshni Meche, Lalit Jung Shahi, Lila Kumari Bhandari, Basudev Ghimire, Samjhana Devkota, Sunil Bahadur Thapa and Somanath Portel.
However, Meena Singh Rakhal was absent from the ceremony.
The National Assembly has a total of 59 members. According to constitutional provisions, each member serves a six-year term, with one-third of the members retiring every two years.
