KATHMANDU- Krishna Prasad Sitaula, the ruling coalition’s candidate in Koshi State, has been elected to the National Assembly. Sitaula was elected with 5,292 votes.
Sitaula had support from the Congress, Maoist Center, Unified Socialist Party, and Janata Samajwadi Party. Sitaula competed against RPP’s Uddhav Paudel. He obtained 4,562 votes.
When the members of the alliance crossed the floor, Rukmina Koirala of UML was elected as a woman.
The Koshi State Assembly has 46 MPs, with the UML and RPP cooperating in the National Assembly elections. The ruling coalition consists of 47 MPs.
In Koshi State, at the state and local levels, UML has 4,024 votes, Congress 3,684, Maoist Center 1,278, RPP 394, CPN Unified Socialists 345, JSP 129 and Independents 57.
After RPP and UML joined forces in Koshi, the difference in vote share with the alliance decreased to 794. The ruling coalition has 5436 votes. The votes of UML and RPP are 4,642.
