JANAKPURDHAM: The Ministry of Energy, Irrigation, and Drinking Water of Madhes Province has decided to provide relief to communities affected by drought.

During a meeting held on Tuesday, officiating Secretary Ram Kumar Khanga, along with development partners and representatives from various sectors, made an eight-point decision aimed at supporting drought-affected households across the province.

As per the decision, the most vulnerable households will be identified immediately, and coordination with local governments and district disaster management committees will be strengthened. The capacity of development partners to assist in relief efforts will also be assessed.

Affected households will be given the option to choose between the installation of deep boring systems or shallow tube wells to address water scarcity. A long-term plan to promote alternative agriculture will be developed in collaboration with the private sector, development partners, and government agencies.

Additionally, conservation and promotion of the Chure region will be prioritized. A disaster response action plan to address the ongoing drought will be submitted to the relevant committee within a week.
