KATHMANDU: Pushpa Kamal Dahal “Prachanda,” Chairman of the Maoist Center, has stated that the groundwork for a new government has been set with the arrival of the Nepali New Year.
While speaking to journalists in his hometown of Chitwan, Prachanda hinted that the formation of a government under the leadership of the Nepali Congress (NC) is now a distinct possibility.
When questioned about the likelihood of a new government in the new year, Prachanda clarified that his party was not primarily focused on forming a government but acknowledged that the political situation was moving in that direction.
“Our main focus isn’t on government formation,” he said. “However, the current situation indicates that this government will face significant challenges moving forward, so all options are on the table.”
Prachanda reiterated his stance that the Nepali Congress, as the largest party, should lead the government. He highlighted the widespread dissatisfaction and unrest across the country, pointing out protests from various sectors, including doctors, nurses, teachers, microfinance victims, and even parties within the current government.
“The situation has become serious and complex,” he said. “However, I believe the New Year will bring a resolution.”
Prachanda emphasized that it would be the most suitable solution to form a government under the leadership of the largest party.
“I spoke based on new experiences last time, and I don’t want to elaborate further. My comments were based on recent developments, and I believe the country is heading in that direction,” he added.
