KATHMANDU: The CPN (Unified Socialist), led by Madhav Kumar Nepal, has concluded that pro-change forces must unite and move forward.

During a secretariat meeting at the party’s central office in Aloknagar on Monday, the party stated that former King Gyanendra Shah’s recent activities go against the people’s wishes and sentiments.

A large number of royalists demonstrated in Kathmandu on Sunday as Shah returned from Pokhara after a month-long stay.

Party Vice Chair and Head of the Publicity Department, Prakash Jwala, said, “Some individuals have started activities against the republic, which was established through the people’s long struggle and an elected Constituent Assembly. These activities are against the people’s will, and pro-change forces must unite.”

The meeting also called for exposing the ‘wrongdoings’ of the former king.

“The only alternative to the current republic is a more advanced form of republicanism. While critically reviewing our own actions, we urge all political parties, intellectuals, civil society, and the general public to expose the reactionary and revivalist forces and their past misdeeds,” the party stated.

Additionally, the meeting decided to announce the structure and programs of the party’s upcoming movement for the protection of the republic and constitution, as well as for employment and good governance.
