KATHMANDU: The government has reached out to the protesting group demanding the cancellation of the Pathibhara Mukkumlung Cable Car project, inviting them once more for discussions.
Prem Prasad Bhattarai, the coordinator of the government’s negotiation team, has urged the protesting group to return to the table to address concerns related to social, religious, cultural, and local community issues arising from the cable car construction in the Pathibhara region.
However, the No Cable Car Group has been insisting on the formation of a ministerial-level negotiation team and demands that the matter be settled directly with the relevant minister.
Previous talks led by Bhattarai failed to yield any agreement. Tensions reached a peak last Friday when a violent clash broke out between supporters and opponents of the cable car project.
Police had to resort to firing tear gas to control the situation, which led to injuries for a local resident and over a dozen police officers.
