KATHMANDU: The government has sent three ordinances, passed by the Cabinet on Friday, to President Ramchandra Paudel for authentication.

On Sunday, the Prime Minister’s Secretariat informed that the ordinances were sent to the President for approval after the Cabinet meeting on Friday. The three ordinances aim to amend 14 to 15 laws.

“We have sent the ordinances to the President for authentication this afternoon,” the Prime Minister’s Secretariat stated. “The President will review them with legal advice, discussion, and study before granting approval. After that, even when Parliament resumes, the government is prepared to discuss and pass these ordinances and their provisions.”

The government’s move to bring ordinances without Parliament’s session has drawn criticism from opposition parties, including the CPN (Maoist Center), Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP), Rastriya Prajatantra Party, CPN (Unified Socialist), Janamat Party, and JSP. Even some leaders of the ruling Nepali Congress have expressed dissatisfaction with the government’s decision to introduce ordinances.

The Cabinet meeting, which ran late into Friday night, decided on the ordinances.

However, the drafts of the ordinances have not yet been formally made public. To discuss the ordinances, Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli, accompanied by Law Minister Ajay Chaudhari, Chief Secretary Ek Narayan Aryal, and Law Secretary Uday Raj Sapkota, visited the President’s residence, Shital Niwas, on Friday afternoon.
