One hundred days of govt: 150,000 more farmers registered

KATHMANDU: Within 100 days of the formation of the incumbent government, 150,000 more farmers have been registered.

According to the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock Development, the number of registered farmers has reached one million and 933 thousand so far.

It is mentioned in a progress report of the ministry that the procedure for distribution of farmer ID cards is in the process of approval.

From the budget allocated for the current fiscal year, tender process for purchasing 460 thousand metric tons fertilizers is ensured.

It is also stated that 155 thousand metric tons of chemical fertilizers have been imported and 129 thousand metric tons of fertilizer, including the stock of the previous year, has been sold and distributed.

The Ministry said that it is preparing to send the revision proposal to the Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs for the approval of the Management Guideline, 2077 for simplifying the process of sale and distribution of subsidized fertilizers.

In order to provide an incentive subsidy amount of Rs.1 billion 449.2 million 38 thousand rupees in the last fiscal year 2081-82 for the sale of sugarcane and crushing of sugarcane to the farmers for crushing sugarcane, it has been disbursed to the Office of the Controller of Finance and Accounts in eight districts of Madhes Province and paid to the farmers.

The procedure for providing subsidy on crop and livestock insurance premium, 2081 has been approved and is being implemented gradually.

During this period, 37 thousand 611 policies for livestock insurance and 323 policies for crop insurance have been issued.

The approval has been given by the committee of the ministry level and the disbursements have been made to the authority’s account from the departments.

According to the ministry, 2,746 markets have been monitored and inspected to maintain food hygiene and quality.

Similarly, 13,061 samples of fruits and vegetables imported at the customs checkpoint have been tested for pesticide residues using the device.

According to the ministerial decision made by the Minister of Agriculture and Livestock Development, Ramnath Adhikari, on September 25, an eight-member taskforce was formed under the coordination of the member secretary of the National Farmers Commission to prepare an action plan for the restructuring and professional improvement of the Dairy Development Corporation.

According to the Ministry, most of the farmers have been paid for their milk till the end of May by disbursing Rs 600 million concessional loans.
