KATHMANDU: More than 17 thousand people, who were stranded in the wake of the recent natural disasters like landslide, flood and inundation, have been rescued safely.
Nepali Army, the Armed Police Force Nepal, Nepal Police and volunteers deputed in search and rescue operation rescued 17,120 people till this morning, said Joint-Secretary at the Home Ministry, Rishi Ram Tiwari.
Sharing the information that search for 22 missing people was underway, he said arrangement has been made for providing free treatment at different hospitals to 169 people injured in the natural disaster.
“Of the injured, a majority have returned home. Security personnel had organized health camp and distributed relief materials immediately during disaster at the hardest-hit areas,” he mentioned.
According to the Home Ministry, 2,158 people were rescued in Kathmandu Valley, 90 in Koshi Province, 35 in Madhes province and 13,640 in Bagmati Province so far.
Search and rescue operation has reached the final phase while the search for the missing ones has been accelerated, he added.
Similarly, Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak is coordinating with bodies concerned and ministries for search, rescue and relief distribution task as well as to resume the obstructed highways.
Activities to provide relief amount to the natural disaster victim families are underway in different districts including Kathmandu, Lalitpur, Bhaktapur, Dhading and Sindhuli while different donor agencies and donors are distributing relief materials at disaster most-affected districts.
