KATHMANDU: The name of Prakash Man Singh Raut, the proposed Chief Justice, has been unanimously approved by the Parliamentary Hearing Committee.

The Constitutional Council had recommended Raut for the position of Chief Justice of the Supreme Court, and his hearing took place on Wednesday before the Parliamentary Hearing Committee.

Following the hearing, the committee confirmed Raut as the next Chief Justice.

There were six complaints filed against Raut, which the committee had reviewed. The committee had allowed a 10-day period for filing objections.

The complaints against him ranged from personal disputes with his wife, Lalita, to accusations of favoring the Nepali Congress party and releasing a murder accused on general bail.

A woman from Chitwan had filed a complaint alleging that Raut’s decision in a land dispute had caused her significant losses. Gagan Ayadi, the father of Chetan Ayadi, a man murdered by Nepali Congress members on the day of the election on Mangsir 6, 2079, also lodged a complaint. He accused Raut of being biased toward the Nepali Congress, claiming that he acted like a party member and requested that his appointment be rejected.

During the hearing on Wednesday, Raut denied all allegations. He also presented a 24-point action plan focused on judicial reforms, including improvements in case hearings and the implementation of verdicts. Satisfied with his proposals, the committee approved his name for Chief Justice.
