KATHMANDU: Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’, leader of the main opposition party — Maoist Center — has criticized the government for what he described as a reckless approach characterized by numerical manipulation and abuse of power.

In his address to the House of Representatives on Tuesday, Prachanda expressed his concerns about the government’s misguided and arrogant trajectory.

He stated, “As the leader of the main opposition party, I could have raised concerns earlier, but I chose to give the government the benefit of the doubt during its honeymoon period.”

“After more than 40 days of observing the government’s actions and intentions, I have concluded that it is heading in the wrong direction—one marked by arrogance, a frenzy of numbers, and the abuse of power. The government appears to be serving special interest groups and even the mafia, rather than the people,” he stated.

Prachanda warned that failure to address these issues promptly would result in significant damage.

He criticized the government for forming alliances with smaller ethnic-regional parties under false pretenses, stating, “The Nepali Congress and CPN-UML are not the only ones involved; they have deceived smaller ethnic-regional parties into supporting them.”

Prachanda declared that the opposition would not passively witness the government’s perceived immorality and corruption.

Instead, Prachanda vowed that every crime committed by the government would be exposed, challenged, and resisted within the parliament.

He urged those who doubt the opposition’s strength to reconsider, emphasizing, “If necessary, we will take the fight to the streets, rallying the people to hold the government accountable.”

Maoist Center Chairman Prachanda highlighted the opposition’s moral strength and reassured that despite its smaller numbers, it remains a formidable force against the government’s two-thirds majority.

He stated, “The government may hold a two-thirds majority, but it is built on a foundation of fear rather than trust. The government’s shortcomings have been and will continue to be exposed to the people.”
