KATHMANDU: The Nepalese government has lifted the ban on the popular video-sharing platform TikTok.

The decision was made during a Cabinet meeting held on Thursday.

This move comes after TikTok’s office sent a letter to the government, committing to adhere to Nepalese laws and legal processes.

The ban was originally imposed last year under then Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda.’

The decision to lift the ban was proposed by Minister for Communication and Information Technology, Prithvi Subba Gurung.

With the ban now lifted, TikTok will resume operations across the country.

The initial ban, enforced by the Council of Ministers on November 13, was due to concerns over social harmony, numerous complaints regarding public decency, and the platform’s perceived lack of cooperation in crime prevention and prosecution efforts.
