KATHMANDU: Kulman Ghising, Managing Director of the Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA), has announced that power supply to industries with outstanding dues has been reconnected only temporarily, for three months.

During a meeting of the Public Accounts Committee under the House of Representatives on Friday, Ghising emphasized that industries must clear their dues within this three-month period.

“Failure to clear the dues will result in power disconnection once again,” Ghising warned. The NEA has granted a three-month period for industries to settle their outstanding payments.

According to Ghising, the NEA currently reports a profit of Rs 46 billion. If the outstanding dues of Rs 21 billion are collected, the total profit would rise past Rs 60 billion.

Last week, the NEA disconnected electricity supply to six industries due to disputes over dedicated feeders and trunk lines.

Following a directive from Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli, the NEA has decided to restore power to these industries, provided they clear their dues within the stipulated three-month period.
