KATHMANDU: The District Disaster Management Funds have released compensation amounts to provide Rs 200,000 each to the families of 69 people who lost their lives in the monsoon disaster.

According to the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority, a total of Rs 13.8 million has been allotted so far, with some districts already distributing the monetary relief to the victim families.

More than 125 people have been killed in monsoon-related disasters so far. The highest number of casualties resulted from landslides, floods, and lightning strikes.

Security bodies have rescued 125 people who were at high risk due to disasters following heavy rainfall across the country, the Authority added.

Dr. Dijan Bhattarai, spokesperson for the Authority, stated that people were rescued from Taplejung, Okhaldhunga, Kalikot, and Bajhang, among other districts, by helicopter.

Releasing a report on Friday about the situation of the monsoon disaster over the past month, the Authority mentioned that the District and Local Disaster Management Committees, Nepal Red Cross, and other organizations have distributed food and other goods to the affected families.

Additionally, Rs 15,000 to 20,000 was immediately distributed as relief to the monsoon disaster-affected families, according to the report.

Dr. Bhattarai further shared that disaster management activities are being conducted in a coordinated manner.

Heavy rainfall has caused significant loss of lives and property in the first month of this year’s monsoon season.
