Nepal and Germany solidified their partnership on Tuesday by signing financial and technical cooperation agreements amounting to a significant 56 million euros in grants. The official signing took place between Shreekrishna Nepal, Joint Secretary at the Ministry of Finance, representing Nepal, and German Ambassador to Nepal, Thomas Prinz, representing Germany.

The grant, pledged in 2022, aims to support various sectors in Nepal. The financial cooperation agreement targets the expansion of energy transmission lines, the promotion of solar energy, gender equality, and the enhancement of maternal care and childcare in remote areas. Simultaneously, the technical cooperation agreement focuses on supporting gender equality and social inclusion, along with local and provincial economic development, particularly in western Nepal, in collaboration with the European Union and Finland.

According to the German Embassy in Kathmandu, the agreements also prioritize promoting renewable energy, energy efficiency, building quality infrastructure for sustainable economic development, and supporting Nepal’s health sector strategy.

Germany has been a consistent contributor to Nepal’s development efforts, actively participating in areas such as energy, health, and good governance. The embassy emphasized Germany’s commitment to aiding Nepal in achieving its sustainable development goals.

The German Ambassador, Thomas Prinz, expressed the deep friendship between the two nations and highlighted Germany’s ongoing support for Nepal’s hydropower and energy initiatives. The grant signifies Germany’s dedication to further enhancing its commitment to Nepal’s progress and prosperity.

This financial and technical collaboration underscores the continuing bond between Nepal and Germany, fostering mutual growth and development.
