June 24th, Kathmandu: Over 200 young delegates representing 10 countries have gathered in Kathmandu for the 9th edition of the Everest International Model United Nations (EIMUN) 2024.0
Organized by the Youth Thinkers’ Society (YTS) in collaboration with the US Embassy in Nepal, the five-day conference aims to empower youth to confront and address pressing global issues, including, Humanitarian Security Crisis and Cyber threat, Women’s Participation in Political Realm, Digital Misinformation, Preserving Agricultural Biodiversity, Sustainable Energy and Water Managements.
The EIMUN has gained recognition as one of the most prestigious Model UN conferences in the South and Central Asian region, providing a platform for youths from different cultural backgrounds to engage in rigorous debates and negotiations.
The opening ceremony held on Monday featured Ambassador Amrit Bahadur Rai, Joint Secretary, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Government of Nepal, the US Ambassador to Nepal, Dean R. Thompson, and the UN Women Nepal Country Representative, Patricia Fernández-Pacheco.
The present dignitaries emphasized the importance of youth engagement in global affairs.
According to the organizers, by strengthening cross-cultural understanding and sharpening diplomatic skills, the EIMUN aims to equip the participants with the necessary tools to shape a better and more sustainable future for youths.
Young leaders from countries such as Bangladesh, India, Japan, Sudan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Nepal, Myanmar, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka are participating in the five-day conference.
