KATHMANDU: The government has established the National Cyber Security Centre under the Digital Nepal Framework 2076 BS.

The Centre aims to support the government’s aspiration for a digital Nepal.

Based in the old building of the Home Ministry in Singha Durbar, the Centre has already begun its operations, according to Ministry under-secretary and cyber security chief Raj Kumar Maharjan.

The Centre is mandated to investigate cyber security issues, promote cyber security awareness, increase public awareness, prepare for cyber threats, identify relevant challenges, and prevent them.

Established under the Ministry of Communication and Information Technology, it also functions as the Digital Forensic Research Centre.

The decision to establish the Centre was made by the Council of Ministers on January 23 this year.

Staffed by 12 employees, the Centre was created in response to the increasing cyber insecurity in the country.
