Internet Concession for Earthquake Affected Journalists by Press Council

Press Council Nepal has provided internet concessions to earthquake affected journalists of Jajarkot and Rukum West. Under the Council’s Media Development Fund, more than 100 journalists and media houses have been supported with 6 lakh rupees for internet fees. Journalists and media houses of Jajarkot and Rukum West were affected by the earthquake which was epicentered at Ramidanda in Jajarkot on November 3 last year.

A team including Chairman Balkrishna Basnet, member Thakur Belwase reached Jajarkot and Rukum West and provided assistance.

Chairman Basnet said that on behalf of the officials and employees of the council, they have contributed three days’ salary to the Nepal Government Earthquake Relief Fund. He said that the council was with the journalists affected by the earthquake and asked them to benefit from the media development fund.

He said that the journalism done in remote parts of the country has really helped in the transformation of the society. Chairman of Media Development Fund Aid Distribution Program, Basnet informed that the council is soon going to do the listing process of media houses online. In addition to monitoring and inspecting media houses in Jajarkot and Rukum West, the council also conducted code of conduct awareness.
