{"id":3785,"date":"2026-08-27T01:48:07","date_gmt":"2026-08-27T01:48:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/nepalinewshub.com\/?p=3785"},"modified":"2026-08-27T01:48:07","modified_gmt":"2026-08-27T01:48:07","slug":"sc-rejects-deubas-bid-to-halt-nepali-congress-general-convention","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/nepalinewshub.com\/?p=3785","title":{"rendered":"SC rejects Deuba\u2019s bid to halt Nepali Congress general convention"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>KATHMANDU:<\/strong> The Supreme Court has rejected former Nepali Congress president Sher Bahadur Deuba\u2019s request to halt the party\u2019s 15th General Convention being organized by the central committee led by Gagan Kumar Thapa, elected through a special convention.<\/p>\n<p>A joint bench of Justices Sharanga Subedi and Nripdhwaj Niraula ruled that the court\u2019s earlier order could not be amended as demanded by Deuba to stop the 15th General Convention.<\/p>\n<p>Deuba had filed a petition seeking correction of the Supreme Court\u2019s April 17, 2026 order, arguing that the decision recognizing Thapa needed to be rectified.<\/p>\n<p>The earlier order had referred to the central committee being promoted as the \u201cNepali Congress Central Working Committee\u201d under the chairmanship of Gagan Kumar Thapa, who was said to have been elected through an \u201cunconstitutional special convention.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Supreme Court, however, said the details included in the order were based on the names, addresses and positions of the parties mentioned in the writ petition and the information provided by the respondents in their written responses.<\/p>\n<p>The court further clarified that, while issuing a final order or verdict, it would assess the writ petition, responses from the respondents and submitted evidence as a whole.
