{"id":1507,"date":"2024-06-22T15:03:49","date_gmt":"2024-06-22T15:03:49","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/nepalinewshub.com\/?p=1507"},"modified":"2024-06-22T15:03:49","modified_gmt":"2024-06-22T15:03:49","slug":"nc-should-not-join-govt-until-next-election-general-secretary-thapa","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/nepalinewshub.com\/?p=1507","title":{"rendered":"NC should not join govt until next election: General-Secretary Thapa"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>KATHMANDU:<\/strong> Nepali Congress (NC) General-Secretary Gagan Kumar Thapa has expressed that the NC should remain out of the government until the next election.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking at the \u2018Second Province Assembly Regional Conference, 2081,\u2019 organized by NC Kathmandu Constituency 6 (1), Thapa emphasized the importance of the NC playing an effective role from the opposition.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere needs to be cordial relations within the party along with clarity and commitment. By fully implementing these ideas, we can position the party to form a single majority government with 40 percent of the votes,\u201d he claimed.<\/p>\n<p>Thapa mentioned that a wider discussion would be held at the party\u2019s Mahasamiti meeting by mid-July to develop future strategies.<\/p>\n<p>He also highlighted the need to revise the process for selecting the party\u2019s candidates in elections, advocating for NC\u2019s active members to have the right to vote when nominating candidates.<\/p>\n<p>He stressed that internal groupism and factional feuds must end to ensure the party\u2019s victory with a single majority.<\/p>\n<p>Thapa urged NC-led governments in 332 local units to focus on the welfare of the people, maintaining the NC\u2019s position in opposition at the center to effectively hold the government accountable.<\/p>\n<p>Thapa also called for amendments to certain provisions of the Constitution before the next election.<\/p>\n<p>He pointed out that provinces are being run through court verdicts and suggested reducing the number of ministers in federal and provincial governments.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFuture strides should be taken by amending the Constitution,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<p>He emphasized the need to implement programs that connect leaders and cadres with citizens.<\/p>\n<p>NC central member Pradeep Poudel echoed Thapa\u2019s sentiments, stating that the party\u2019s organization would strengthen nationwide if its base in Kathmandu remained robust.<\/p>\n<p>He argued that the NC should stand strong against corruption and work to establish people\u2019s agendas.<\/p>\n<p>Another central member, Pratima Gautam, stressed the importance of making the NC a dynamic political force capable of providing effective leadership to the country.<\/p>\n<p>Likewise, NC Kathmandu President Sabuj Baniya accused leaders of using Kathmandu as a platform for securing their positions, weakening the party\u2019s organizational base by forming alliances with other parties for personal gain.<\/p>\n<p>Several NC leaders shared their views at the program, which was presided over by NC Kathmandu Constituency 6 (1) President Khyam Raj Tiwari.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress (NC) General-Secretary Gagan Kumar Thapa has expressed that the NC should remain out of the government until the next election.
