Chief Election Commissioner calls for submission of election management draft bill soon

In a discussion with the media hosted today by the Election Commission and the Nepal Law Society, he stressed that reforming the election law is essential for the country's governance change.

KATHMANDU: Dinesh Kumar Thapalia, Chief Election Commissioner, has requested a public debate on the draft Election Management Bill given to the Government of Nepal, which should be passed by the House as soon as feasible.

In a discussion with the media hosted today by the Election Commission and the Nepal Law Society, he stressed that reforming the election law is essential for the country’s governance change.

On Ashar 18 (July 3), the Commission decided on the Integrated Election Law Bill and presented it to the Ministry of Home Affairs after evaluating the various elections held last year and taking into account the proposals received.

Madhav Paudel, the former secretary of the Ministry of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs, said that if the bill is passed, there will be a comprehensive improvement, and he said that the political parties should also imbibe moral values ​​in the matter of elections.

The in-principle consent was received from the Government of Nepal on the 14th of Poush 2078 (29 Dec 2021) to draft the Bill.
