Case registered against 290 people, non-prosecution of organized crime

KATHMANDU: A case has been registered against 290 people in the case of embezzlement of government land of Lalita Niwas.
The prosecution was filed in the Kathmandu District Court by the public prosecutor’s office some time ago.
They will not be prosecuted on organized crime allegations. Prior to the law’s enactment, the public prosecutor’s office requested that only charges of fraud be pursued, based on the determination that the Lalita Niwas property was irregular.
For government employment, there is a one-year prison sentence and a fine of 10,000 rupees.
The Central Bureau of Investigation (CIB) has concluded that 143 ropani 6 annas of Lalita Niwas complex land was transferred to the names of persons in a systematic and organized way using purchase documents.
Based on this, the CIB recommended that the case of organized crime and racketeering be prosecuted.
However, the public prosecutor’s office has opted not to pursue the organized crime allegations.
